Kurasu Singapore joins Singapore National Brewers Cup 2018

13 March 2018

If you have been hanging out at district6’s lounge area after hours, you might have seen (or heard) our beloved barista Angelo slurping on some coffee repeatedly (and vigorously too). That’s because our favourite coffee bar, Kurasu Singapore, will be taking part in one of the biggest competitions in the coffee world, the Singapore National Brewers Cup 2018! The Singapore National Brewers Cup Championship 2018 is organized by the Singapore Coffee Association to highlight the craft of filter coffee brewing by hand, promoting manual coffee brewing and service excellence. The event will be held from 22nd to 24th March at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Hall B from 10am to 6pm. If you would like to come down and support the Kurasu team, the event will be open to Public on the last day of the competition.

Hello Angelo~

Is this Kurasu’s first time participating in SNBRC (Singapore National Brewers Cup Championship)?

Yes! This year is the first time any of us is representing the company in a competition!

That’s awesome. How are you preparing for the competition?

We have been brewing a lot of coffees and carefully tasting each and everyone of them to make sure they are competition ready. We only want to present the best brews.

What do you want to achieve as a coffee bar?

We want to influence more people to drink black coffee. We want to break the stigma that people have about the “bitter old black coffee” and introduce it as a beverage filled with complex flavours!

Angelo also discourages putting an excessive amount of sugar in your coffee. I got nagged at once because I asked for extra sugar. Such a caring (& naggy) barista.

Tell us one coffee fact that not many know about.

Making coffee is often like a science experiment. From processing to roasting and to brewing coffee beans, each involves a certain chemical reaction.

Interesting. Well, we love your coffee. Tell us one thing that makes Kurasu the best.

Hahaha. If I have to pick one thing that makes Kurasu the best, I would say definitely the team. We are passionate about what we do and we have a lot of fun doing it!

Agreed! Let’s send some love and support to our beloved Kurasu team. District6 wishes them all the best in the competition and hope they bring home the championship (though they are already champions in our heart!).
